Set
up and day of the fair information
Set up is to be Friday April 13, 2012, between 1
p.m. and 5 p.m. at the 1000 Islands Mall in Brockville. All entrants are
to come to the Registration desk (location to be announced).
At the Registration desk entrants will be given
information about which tables to set up the projects on, times for Saturday
April 14 when they must be at their projects, when lunch will be, a label
identifying the project for the judges, etc. A map showing how to get to the
awards ceremony at BCI will be given out at this time.
Once the projects have been registered and placed on
the assigned tables, the entrants may leave, though it is best not to have
valuable items left with the projects. If an entrant has valuable materials as
part of the project, he/she should leave a note explaining that he will bring a
laptop (for example) on Saturday. The judges will go over the projects on
Friday evening, without the students there, to do a preliminary judging and to
decide which questions to ask on Saturday. Saturday's judging is scheduled to
begin right at 8:30 a.m. and the entrants must be there at that time. There
will be a lunch break at some time, with the time depending on when the
morning's judges finish. In the afternoon there will be a different set of
judges. It can be a long day for the students, so many bring books to read
between being judges. We will also provide some puzzles, word searches, etc.
We hope to have the judging completed by 3:30, but
ask that the entrants do not leave until it is announced that they may. There
is an award ceremony at BCI (local high school about 2 km away from the Mall)
beginning at 4:30. The ceremony usually ends between 5:30 and 6:00 p.m. If an
entrant wins an award, but is not at the award ceremony, we will get the award
to the winner later. Most of the students enjoy the awards ceremony. There
are about 100 awards and when a winner's name is announced a photo of the
student with his/her project goes up on the large screen on the stage. There is
always an opportunity for parents to take photos of the winners getting their
awards.
